In September 2020, Bolter launched the Little Giant Startup Grant, a competitive Grant for Australian Startup businesses. The Grant was created to recognise and promote the incredible entrepreneurial spirit of Australia. The objective of the Grant was to encourage and support one startup business in the commercialisation process or launch of a minimum viable product or service within Queensland or throughout Australia.
The total value of the Little Giant Startup Grant was $50,000, consisting of $25,000 worth of legal advice from Bolter and $25,000 in cash.
From an incredibly sophisticated pool of applicants, 12 semi-finalists were chosen and their applications shared with our panel of expert judges who chose 5 finalists to pitch their startup idea at a virtual pitch night.
Our expert judges were Ben Gouldson – Bolter, Director, Holly Hunt (née Tattersall) – Founder of Women in Digital & Digital Talent Co., Gemma Alker – Manager QUT Future Enterprise Research Centre, and Marc Orchard – BDO, Director of Startups.
The virtual pitch night was held via Zoom and Facebook Live on Thursday 23 April 2021. Finalists submitted a three minute pre-recorded pitch and engaged in a live Q&A with our panel of amazing judges. The successful finalist and winner of the Little Giant Startup Grant was spur: who pitched their mental health app Toucan. We proudly announced the outcome of the grant in a media alert on the 27 April 2021. You can learn more about spur: here.
Here at Bolter we are very excited to be joining spur: on their startup journey and can’t wait to help them kickstart their business dream.
